REAL PROGRESS IN HAIR REMOVAL.
A
LASER HAIR REMOVAL ASSOCIATED WITH A SKIN COOLER.
The
lasers are beams of concentrated light which are absorbed by tissues according
to their wavelength.
For that we use a laser alexandrite which has a wavelength of 750nm what
enables him to be absorbed selectively by the color black or brown, i.e.
the pigment (the melanin) which is strongly concentrated in the hair,
but also to a lesser extent by the pigment contained in the skin.
Thus the best effectiveness will be obtained on a dark hair with a clear
or not very matt skin. It is impossible to apply this type of laser to
very dark or recently bronzed skins, under penalty of burns and depigmentation.
Thus all the difficulty in order to improve the performance of a hair
removal, is in the fact that the skin contains also pigment in more or
less amount and when the power of the laser is increased, in order to
obtain a better effectiveness, burns can appear or a very unpleasant burning
feeling.
This is the principal reason of a certain number of failures of this technique,
because in order to avoid burn and pains, the doctor operator reduces
the power of the laser, thus decreasing the effectiveness of the treatment.
Applications of a cooled gel is often proposed, but they are often insufficient
to maintain a temperature sufficiently low of the skin.
The solution at this problem is thus brought by our laser which is coupled
with a cooler which projects air at -60°. This make possible to decrease
the temperature of the surface of skin, where the pigment is, while letting
act it more in the depth of the skin, where the hair follicle is.
We can then apply higher energy at the skin, without risk of burn or depigmentation,
and pain.
The
conclusion of our experience, is that the association of an air cooler
with a laser for hair removal, allows the use of stronger energy, which
improves the effectiveness of hair removal as well as comfort during the
meeting.
